Saying Hello

The past two weeks have been rough. My due date came and went without any signs of labor, and then I had contractions on and off for over a week. Add to that my husband’s grandfather taking a drastic turn for the worst and eventually dying the same weekend that I was in early labor, and stressful doesn’t come close to describing it. I was induced Monday morning (after days of trying natural induction, early labor, and not progressing), knowing that I would not be able to attend Pawpaw’s funeral the next day.

Melissa shared on Monday how special Pawpaw was to her. Pawpaw and I had our own special relationship, especially since my own grandfathers were dead long before I was born. I wanted to be at his funeral so badly, but there was just no way. Around 3 PM, after the epidural had kicked in, I decided to honor Pawpaw in a very personal way. Pawpaw’s middle name was David, and it has been handed down to several men and boys in the family. However, there was no way that I was going to use it in Lily’s name. Instead, I found a name that has the same meaning as David that flows much better with Lillian.

So at 4:54 on Monday, August 13th, after 41 weeks and 4 days of pregnancy, Lillian Cara was born, weighing 8 pounds, 13 ounces, and measuring 20 inches long.

We are so in love! She is such a blessing in the middle of all of the stresses of the past two weeks. I do wish Pawpaw could have met her, but I know that she was born when she needed to be.
