I hope you all had a wonderful day yesterday celebrating Father’s Day! We were both busy most of the day spending time with family, but we also spent some time reflecting on the other reason it was a special day for us… It marked one year since our first post on Sisters ‘N Cloth!
It’s hard to believe it has been a year since we started this thing. I still remember the night Jen sent me a facebook message. “Would you be interested in starting a cloth diapering blog with me?” From there the idea definitely evolved, and we had tons of big, brainstorming meetings while we breastfed babies and dreamed about we wanted our blog to be and do. Jeniffer had the brilliant idea for the name (hey, we think it’s brilliant anyways), playing on the fact that we are sisters-in-law who became close because of our shared love of cloth diapers.
We thought WordPress was going to be the death of us as we tried to figure out how on earth to pick a theme and make it look like something that was “us.” That first design represented lots of sweat and blood! My husband was an amazing miracle-worker when he figured out how to let us have custom fonts!
How we blog has also evolved over the past year. I was so determined in the beginning that certain things had to be just so. Like the fact that all our posts needed to be scheduled to post at 7am every morning. Whether it meant staying up until 2am or not (#controlfreak)! I’ve relaxed a bit on that, something I’m sure Jeniffer appreciates
We’ve had the opportunity to try out some great products and share them with our readers. My stash is much more diverse, and a lot more fun now!
The weekly breastfeeding blog hop and all the wonderful topics we’ve been able to cover, the Remembering Our Babies event we did in October where we gave women the chance to share their stories, the Worship Wednesday posts where we get to share what God has been showing us about Himself and the grace He gives us messed up moms… Those are all highlights of this past year for me.
But when I look back over the last year, the thing that stands out to me the most are the friendships that we have been able to develop with other moms. The people we’ve been able to come alongside and encourage while they were struggling or just having a bad day, and the many times that so many of them have done the same for us.
I love reading Jeniffer’s words from our first post and thinking about how this has happened!
My name is Jeniffer, and my sister-in-law is Melissa. We’re both passionate about cloth diapers, breastfeeding, babywearing, and homeschooling. (She’s had more practice in certain areas…considering that her fourth child and my first were born within two weeks of each other.) This blog is our soap box, if you will, about these topics. We will also be doing some product reviews, and even the occasional giveaway.
But it’s not just about “green” living, being environmentally conscious, or even saving money. This is about us connecting with you. We want to hear your thoughts on these matters too! What has worked for you? What has flopped? What do you wish you had known when you started? If you’re just starting out, like me, what do you want to know? We want to develop a community that can learn from each other!
Our stats may not be award winning. We may not be making any money. But if we’ve helped even just a few moms along the way, then this year has been worth everything we’ve been able to give it!
We’d love to hear from you, our readers! How long have you been a reader of Sisters ‘N Cloth? Do you have a favorite post, or an example of a time we were able to help you or encourage you?
Thank you so much for reading! Without you, this past year wouldn’t be possible!
