Great Cakes Soapworks Review and Giveaway

I love soap. Especially good, yummy, moisturizing soap. I think my soap fascination comes from having sensitive skin and having problems with my dermatitis. My biggest problem has been finding soap that smells good and doesn’t irritate my skin. Thankfully, I’ve recently found the world of handmade soaps!

While there are many different companies that make handmade soaps, Great Cakes Soapworks stands out above the rest. Amy runs her company with the motto, “A great cake of soap can cleanse your body, but only a great God can cleanse your soul!” I love that!

Before I share my thoughts, I’d like to share Amy’s thoughts on her company.

I made my first batch of cold process soap on November 18, 2002, as a Christmas gift for my friends. It was a wonderful experience that led to many more, until I had more soap than my family and friends could use. I became a vendor at my local farmer’s market during the summer of 2004. In 2005, Great Cakes Soapworks was born out of the combination of my passion for my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and my passion to make great soap. I have been making and selling soap ever since!

My yummy soap smelled amazing right out of the package!

I chose the Lavender Meadows Goat Milk soap to try out. When it came in, I could smell it through the package! Yum!! Even the card smelled like lavender. I love how personal the package was, which included a handwritten note! Amy was even kind enough to recommend using the soap as a facial bar. :)

When I started using the soap, I first noticed the creamy lather. I love how moisturizing goat’s milk soap is! It leaves my skin super soft. I even used this soap to shave with, and it worked really well! I also like that it has exfoliating pulverized oats, which is nice when using it for your body or your face.

And, of course I love the smell! The soap is described on her site as a, “Calming fusion of creamy goat’s milk, oatmeal, and lavender blend of essential oils.” For lavender lovers, this soap is amazing! It’s definitely my favorite lavender blend, and I think it’s because of the richness that the oatmeal adds.

While this soap isn’t particularly recommended for use on babies, I wanted to give it the ultimate sensitive skin test, so I used it on my daughter. I’m happy to report that all it did was make her smell yummy! No bumps or red marks at all!

This soap was moisturizing, worked well for shaving, and smelled amazing. I did try it on my face, but it didn’t work well. Of course, I have oily skin, and this particular bar of soap already had oils in it. I think that if I used it during the winter, it would work better. Someone who had dry skin or who lives in a drier climate would probably get more use out of it as a facial bar than I did, too.

The only other problem that I have is one common among handmade soaps: it didn’t last as long as commercial soaps. I’m sure that this is really a good thing, especially since most commercial soaps have tons of nasty chemicals and preservatives. I’d rather have my natural, handmade, yummy-smelling soap over a longer-lasting one any day!

Amy has lots of other great fragrances on her website, including this deliciously fall-sounding soap, Cinnamon Apple Peach. Be sure to check out her full line of soaps, lotions, butters, lip balm, and more!

This is for the entry above where you pick your favorite product from the soap website. I looked for the extra info box to put this in but could not find the extra info box. So I am posting it here instead. They have so many great products and they all look wonderful. But I think my favorite is the Patchouli Beer Bar. It sounds fantastic!
