One of the things that can be overwhelming to people considering cloth diapers is night time cloth diapering. I’ll be honest and say that until recently I’d become very frustrated with night time diapering my now six month old. It seemed like no matter what I put him in, we were waking up with wet pajamas and wet sheets by the morning. And disposables were no better!
I’ve finally found some solutions and hope that I can help someone else by sharing! All three of these solutions have lasted at least twelve hours for us with no leaking, on a consistent basis. I’ve included pictures so you can see how trim or bulky each option is. For comparisons sake, my son is 6 months old, and weighs 18 lbs 14 oz, and is 27.5 inches long.
Solution One is the most Old School, and was discovered during the Flats Challenge. Two flats – one airplane or kite folded, with the second pad folded as an insert. I then cover it with my Rumparooz OS cover. Fairly trim, and it works!
Solution Two is still pretty Old School, but a bit of a step up
Two prefolds, one trifolded as an insert. With this combination, I can either use my Rumparooz OS cover or my size medium Thirsties cover. I find this Solution a little more absorbent then the first, and his skin tends to be drier when I change him. However, this is also the bulkiest of the Solutions.
Solution Three is my personal favorite – a double stuffed BumGenius 4.0! I have one lonely BumGenius 4.0, but that’s something I hope to change soon. It is the night time diaper I always reach for first! It is also the trimmest, most reliable, and most absorbent. Dare I say it? The cutest!! The only thing I dislike about Solution Three is that the aplix tends to leave red marks on his belly. I plan to order snaps when I get the chance to order more – hopefully soon!
I can put all three solutions under pajamas with no difficulty.
If you haven’t jumped in to night time cloth diapering, I encourage you to give it a shot! Be willing to try a few different things until you find what works for your baby. You might be surprised at how easy it is!
